This is what the next generation Honda Civic could look like

Popularised by the modified cars community, the Honda Civic is a compact car which has a sizeable fan base of young car enthusiasts, particularly in the States. While Honda chose to reveal the preview of the tenth-generation Civic quietly in the New York Auto Show, the styling is anything but. It features a sharp body kit and prominent rear wing finished in neon green paint. You would be forgiven for thinking if you thought this car belongs in a Burnout game or Fast and Furious movie.

It has been previewed as a coupe, a body style which has not been sold in the UK since the seventh generation model. However, influences from the striking concept can still appear on the hatchback, as well as the new engines. The next generation Civic will be powered by turbocharged engines, primarily by a 1.5 litre VTEC unit with up to 200hp. For the current generation Civic, the first VTEC Turbo unit with 300hp will be in the Type R which is set to be released later this year.

The tenth-generation Civic is expected to go on sale in the US later this year. There is no news for the next European Civic, but if the coupĂ© mirrors the concept's design, Honda should seriously consider making this global.
