Vision GT Spotlight: Infiniti Concept VGT

Earlier this Week, Infiniti unveiled a real life model of the Vision Gran Turismo concept car which starred in the v1.15 update for Gran Turismo 6 back in December. However, the same update also brought along the Chaparral 2X with its radical styling, laser-powered motor, controversial handling and stellar performance. The Infiniti made its debut under the shadow of the 2X and didn't receive much attention, but with a real life model making its public appearance, now would be a good time to look back at how it performs in the game.

The full-scale Infiniti Concept VGT retains the extreme design features of the virtual car, boasting a prominent front grill, large alloys and a sharp bodykit, all compressed into a low profile shape. The Infiniti G35, based on the Nissan Skyline 350GT coupe, was the car that gave the Infiniti brand more presence in the American luxury car market, boosting overall sales significantly. The brand expanded into Europe in 2008, featuring the Q50 Coupe which is to be replaced by an all-new model next year featuring a toned-down version of the corporate face on the Vision Gran Turismo concept.

The Infiniti Concept VGT is powered by a 4.5 V8 mated with an electric motor producing 535hp out of the showroom. The engine has plenty of power at the top end of the rev range with the electric motor providing low-end torque for better acceleration at low speeds. For an extra boost, the Infiniti features KERS which can be deployed by pressing the button assigned for nitrous.

When you take the Infiniti Concept VGT onto the track, you really notice how proficient this car can be. Running on super soft tyres, the Infiniti proved it can take on the high speed corners of Apricot Hill Raceway with ease. As the daylight was diming, the sparks produced under heavy braking became more noticeable, a cool feature on the default setup!

For such a capable car, the Infiniti should have arguably been the flagship car in the v1.15 update. Not only has it got a lot of power, the Infinti is able to put it all onto the track in a composed manner, unlike the frisky 2X. The Infiniti Concept VGT can be seen as an exaggerated reflection of the Infiniti Q60, a sports coupe respected by many car enthusiasts.
