Track-ready Dodge Viper ACR makes a return

Here we have the most hardcore edition of the Viper to date: the American Club Racer (ACR). If the standard Viper wasn't mad enough (really?), Dodge has tweaked the 8.4L V10 to produce 645hp. Admittedly, it is only a five horsepower boost and it still falls short of its main rival, the 650 hp Chevrolet Corvette Z06. However, look past the horsepower figure and you find the ACR has a lot more going for it. Like the original ACR, the new model follows the same philosophy by maximising the handling potential of the Viper with aero tweaks, uprated suspension, sharper brakes and various adjustments for better track performance.

The claims made by Dodge can be backed up statistically - That massive rear wing is capable of generating a ton of downforce when the car is travelling at its 177 mph top speed. Other aero add-ons include a rear diffuser, front splitter and hood vents.

The Viper ACR features 50:50 weight distribution which was achieved by compromising the audio system to just 3 speakers (the exhaust note will make up for it anyway), lightweight carpets and manually adjustable seats. Finally, the car comes fitted with an adjustable suspension system, racing shock absorbers and unique Kumho performance tyres wrapped around the 19-inch alloys.

The standard Viper is already an insane car and Dodge have turned it up to 11 with the ACR. It goes on sale later on in the year in limited numbers, but for the rest of us we can hope to at least experience it in upcoming driving games. After all, it was primarily design for racing!
