Motorexpo London 2015 - Part 1: Premium collection

Welcome to my highlights of the London Motorexpo car showcase event. Taking place in Canary Wharf, people in the region had the opportunity to get up close and personal with cars from a variety of brands and test drive them around nearby streets to influence their new car choice. In my case, there were a couple of issues - First of all, I'm still a university student so having the cash to splash out on a brand new car is not on my agenda yet. Secondly, even test drives were a no-go since I had to be over 21, making me just a year under the required limit for most brands taking part in the 'Driveme' scheme. However, I still had a great day out checking out the hottest cars available, so keep reading to find out more about some of the cars on display around Canada Square Park!

My overview of the Motorexpo will be split into three posts, starting with coverage of the civilised offering from premium brands. I'll kick off with one of the newest models to be presented at the show - The Jaguar XE. Set to battle the likes of the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class, this marks Jaguar's first venture into the compact executive car class since the X-Type. Thankfully the XE is rear wheel drive and much better looking than its predecessor. It's not just an appealing car to look at, critics have praised it for its driving dynamics making this the one to watch for in its class.

Next up, we have Tesla. As you can see from the picture, this was one of the most populated stands in the park, mainly due to Tesla being the pioneer of electric cars. I can imagine many potential buyers sealing the deal here.

Mercedes-Benz made an appearance along with their Smart sub-brand. The A-Class has been around for a while but there is no forgetting how much of a massive step up this car was to its ungainly predecessor. Even today it is arguably the best looking car in its class. Then there is the Mercedes SLK, a very popular choice in the premium compact roadster class with sharp lines and upmarket interior.

Finally we have Japanese manufacturers showing they are worth considering in the premium car market. Infiniti turned up with their distinctive Q50 compact executive car while Lexus displayed a range of models with striking designs. The CT200h was the tamest of the bunch but it still looks the business with its red paint and F Sport package. The IS 300h and NX 300h are both hybrids packing a serious punch, both visually and performance wise.

And there you have it, a quick round up of the refined offerings by premium manufacturers. Be sure to check back later on in the week for an overview of performance cars featuring the Audi RS range, BMW M cars and more!
