Gamescom 2015: Forza Motorsport and Need For Speed Round-Up

Earlier this week, one of the biggest annual gaming conventions in Europe, known as Gamescom, kicked off in Cologne. Like E3, events like these are a great opportunity for game developers to make big announcements and showcase what's to come in the future. Here on Frize Feed, I will sum up what we know about the two biggest racing games to make an appearance at Gamescom: Forza Motorsport 6 and Need For Speed.

Forza Motorsport 6

Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, Turn 10 is releasing Forza Motorsport 6 just to mark how far the racing simulator has come since its debut on the original Xbox. Boasting more than 450 cars and 24 racing environments, Forza Motorsport 6 comes with more day one content than any other game in the franchise. You can be almost certain that both numbers will rise as downloadable content and track expansions will be added after release.

From this week's instalment (Week 6) of Forza Garage, a large number of European cars were unveiled with the BMW 3.0 CSL 'Batmobile' and BMW Z4 GTE stealing the headlines. Furthermore, the full track list has been unveiled, some of which feature rain and night time conditions as weather makes a series debut. These are the new tracks in Forza Motorsport 6, which are set to feature alongside all the environments and layouts from Forza Motorsport 5:
  • Rio
  • Daytona
  • Watkins Glen
  • Brands Hatch
  • Lime Rock Park
  • Monza
  • Circuit of the Americas
  • Hockenheim
  • Sonoma
  • Indianapolis (which gets reworked to match the 2014 overhaul)
Other things to look forward to in Forza Motorsport 6 are 24-car races and Online Leagues. To finish, here is some direct feed gameplay to show Forza Motorsport 6 running at 60fps.

Need For Speed

Another racing franchise which should be on the wishlist of many gamers is Need For Speed. The hit arcade racing not only made an appearance with one trailer, but two (check the second one out here!) to give us an idea of what the career mode entails. Showing some of the live-action cutscenes you will encounter in the game, Need For Speed employs a handful of big names in car culture such as Ken Block and Magnus Walker, famous faces which you will see more of as you progress through the game.

Not much written information was given about the content of Need For Speed, but eagle-eyed fans were quick to point out the new cars spotted in videos and images. For instance, the 'crew' image above shows an 180SX with the front end of a Silvia (Sileighty), Mitsubishi Evolution IX, Mazda RX-7 FD3S and a Nissan Silvia S15. We have got a better look at customisation - thanks to this screenshot, the ability to upgrade sound systems has been confirmed. The effect this will have on gameplay remains unknown.

There is no new direct feed gameplay for Need For Speed just yet but hopefully we won't have to wait too long before we can see more than what was shown back in E3. Stay tuned on Frize Feed for more on these two games!
